Used Cell Phones Buying Guide
Look locally for a cheap used cell phone first because you'll know it works in your service area, and you'll save on shipping and sometimes price. Check you local penny pincher/ community classified paper and Craig's List or Cheapcycle.
Ask on Freecycle for a used cell phone in your network. When my husband's very basic old At&T Nokia cell phone broke, we posted on Freecycle and received a newer LG camera flip phone the same week. We simply took our SIM card and popped it into the new (used) cell phone and were ready to go.
Ask at thrift stores and pawn shops, where you can sometimes get a basic phone for next to nothing. Even if they don't sell cell phones, ask if you can leave your information in case one comes in. Be detailed about the type of phone and carrier you need.
Cheap used cell phone?
Check with friends in your cell network, who may be getting ready to switch cell phone plans or get new phones. If their old cells work, you may get one for free or close to it. My sister said she never pays for her cell phones since one of her friends is always getting rid of a cell phone just when she needs it.
Look for a bargain on online websites dedicated to celling used or refurbished cell phones at bargain prices. Auction sites such as eBay also sell used phones, and have a feature that allows you to plug in your zip code to make sure the phone is served in your area.
